Learners |
The Socio-Economic Data is located on the California Department of Education (CDE) website in the Language Census
section. The Language Census (LC) is an annual school-level data collection that takes place in March. The Language
Census collects the following data elements: number of English Learner (EL) students and Fluent English-proficient
(FEP) students in California public schools (K-12) by grade and primary language other than English; number of EL
students enrolled in specific instructional settings or services by type of setting or service; number of students
re-designated from EL to FEP from the prior year; the type of oral language assessment instrument used; and the
number of bilingual staff providing instructional services to EL students by primary language of instruction.
The APPRIS system uses this information to populate the Socio-Economic section for number of English Learners
located on the School Profile.

CalWORKS and Free/Reduced Lunch

These are the complete data files from
the annual CalWORKS data collection. CalWORKS information is submitted by schools to the California Department
of Education (CDE) in February; however, the data is current as of October (previous year). Data files include
public and private school enrollment, number of CalWORKS children residing in the attendance area, number of
students enrolled in free or reduced price meal programs, percent CalWORKS children, and percent free and reduced
price meal enrollment in the program. The APPRIS system uses this information to populate the Socio-Economic
section for number of CalWORKS Students and Free/Reduced Lunch students located on the School Profile.

CBEDS (California
Basic Educational Data System) is an annual data collection in October which
collects the following data elements from California public schools (K-12):
enrollment, graduates, dropouts, vocational education, alternative education,
adult education, course enrollment, classified staff, certificated staff,
teacher shortage and demand. These data files are summaries of the CBEDS
complete files and will be updated annually as time permits. The APPRIS system
uses this information to populate the Race/Ethnicity section for number of
students by ethnicity located on the School Profile.

| College Going Rates |
The Commission's database includes
information on California postsecondary institutions: enrollments, first-time freshmen, transfer students,
degrees and certificates awarded, faculty and staff data, institutional finance data, and eligibility study data. It also
includes information on California's elementary and secondary schools: enrollments and high school graduates. Each
section is broken-down into various categories: Enrollment Data in California's public colleges and universities
is available by: Age, Discipline, Units Attempted, Credit Load, Student Level; First-time Freshmen data in
California's public colleges and universities is available by: 19 years and under and by all ages; Degrees and
Certificates Awarded in California's public colleges and universities by: Discipline, Degree Type and to Students
Transferring from Community Colleges California's Independent Colleges and Universities Enrollment and Degrees
Awarded information is derived from the Commission's administration of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data
System (IPEDS) Transfer Students in California's public colleges and universities available by: Age, Discipline,
Units Attempted, Credit Load, Discipline (UC and CSU only), Student Level, Source Institution; The Elementary and
High School portions of the database have been created from the student information portions of the Department of
Education's California Basic Education Data System (CBEDS). The data include: K-12 enrollments, enrollments in
advanced math and science courses, graduates, and "A-G" course completers. The APPRIS system
uses this information to populate the College Going Rates section for UC, CSU, and Community Colleges located on

| Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I)
results can be found on the California Department of Education (CDE) website under Finance, Research and Statistics.
The CDE database is updated semi-annually at the end of October and the end of APRIL, and includes information
on number of students enrolled in Grade 12, number of Students taking the test, Verbal and Math Scores, and
number of students scoring over 1000. The APPRIS system uses this information to populate the SAT section for Grade
12 enrollment, test takers, and scores over 1000 located on the School Profile.

| Advanced Placement Courses

The Advanced Placement Test
results can be found on the California Department of Education (CDE) website under Finance, Research and Statistics.
The CDE database is updated semi-annually at the end of October and the end of APRIL, and includes information on
number of students enrolled in Grades 11 and 12, number of Students taking the test, and number of students where
AP>=3 for Grades 11 and 12. The APPRIS system uses this information to populate the Advanced Placement Courses
section for Grades 11 and 12 enrollment, number of test takers, and AP>=3 (Qualifying for college credit)
located on the School Profile.

| Academic Performance Index (API)

The Academic Performance Index (API)
is a measurement of school achievement for accountability purposes as a result of the 1999 Public Schools
Accountability Act (PSAA). The Academic Performance Index information can be found on the California Department
of Education (CDE) website under DataQuest. The CDE database is updated semi-annually at the end of October and
the end of APRIL, and includes the Percent Tested, API Score, Statewide Rank, Similar Schools Rank, Growth Target
and the API Target for the following year. The APPRIS system uses this information to populate the
Academic Performance Index section for API Base, State-Wide and Similar Schools Rankings located on the School
Profile.
